FM Stereo DXing in August 2001

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZROGqxxTCYoendofvid [starttext]

Found on an old cassette: some time back in August 2001, unusual atmospheric conditions allowed long-distance reception of FM stations all across the East Coast, from my location in central New Jersey, using only a Panasonic RF-HS90 Japanese-market AM Stereo/FM Stereo/TV audio walkman. In some cases multiple stations were coming in on the same channel, and even drowning out strong, local New York City stations. Summer evenings often bring in FM DX but this one was unusually good!

I just changed some minor details like the copper pipe instead of copper cable.

 [starttext]
This video gives you the basics of Radio Propagation:
Basic information that includes Sun Spots, Solar flux, K and A factors

Why should you be interested in propagation? Well if you want to make those DX contacts you will need to be aware of when propagation is best for conditions to your target. One way to do this is to listen. Another is to check propagation sources such as WWV mentioned above. You can also get familiar with the propagation tables presented monthly in QST and CQ magazines. These charts will tell you when to expect the best propagation on what bands and at what time for your location to other areas of the world. An excellent source is to check the DX clusters online or by packet radio. This can give you current information about DX activity that is happening right now.

Loop antenna crystal radio: how to make/ construct / build / assembly

works without external antenna or earth connection. Despite the simplicity of the circuit
the results were very impressive. I hope that it could be useful to who wants to make some
experiments with this type of radio.

[starttext]

A software-defined radio system, or SDR, is a radio communication system where components that have been typically implemented in hardware (e.g. mixers, filters, amplifiers, modulators/demodulators, detectors, etc.) are instead implemented by means of software on a personal computer or embedded computing devices.[1] While the concept of SDR is not new, the rapidly evolving capabilities of digital electronics render practical many processes which used to be only theoretically possible. (see more http://goo.gl/FvmZg) I used a Samsung Galaxy 2 with gISDR Android app by Alex Lee Shing Cheung for a test, and found very good result. Actually, the app require SDR service from a server which selectable from the app. There are features that can be found on the high-end HF receivers such DSP, Filters, Modes, Band, Scope etc which work well on my phone. You can try this free app from Google play, amateur radio catagory. Have fun!
